BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore.—After a scoreless first half, Concordia scored a pair of goals in less than a two-minute span in three separate spots to defeat Oregon Tech 6-0 in the team’s Cascade Collegiate Conference opener at Delta Park on Friday night.

Concordia (4-1-0), which suffered a loss in the season opener, has now reeled off four straight wins. Oregon Tech fell to 2-3-0 on the season after entering the game with two straight wins with a combined victory margin of 10-0.

In the 57th minute, sophomore Jared Brace (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River H.S.)
was the first of six different CU players to score by notching the team’s initial goal with a 15-yard strike from the left side which dribbled under the diving keeper.

Exactly 96 seconds later on the game clock, Facundo Dipascuale (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Lakeridge H.S.) put away the team’s second score with an assist from Septi Danciu (Bristita, Romania).

“OIT worked very hard to keep the game at nils for a long period.  I thought they stayed organized and produced some very good chances for themselves,” CU head coach Dan Birkey said “We were able to get the most important goal in a game like this and that’s the first one to open the account.

After a penalty kick conversion from Shaunovan Wilson (Jackson Town, Jamaica/Cedric Titus H.S.) at the 64:32 mark Matt Caniglia (San Francisco, Calif./Lebanon H.S.) connected on an 18-yard blast that found the back of the net for a 4-0 CU lead.

Jordan Correa (Lynnwood, Wash./Meadowlake H.S.) and Logan Sanchez (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis H.S.) struck for goals 92 seconds apart with Correa lighting the scoreboard at 83:32 and Sanchez at 85:15.

Mirza Ramic (Banja Luka, Bosnia) set up Correa’s goal while Graham Humphries (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor H.S.) and Brad Bevens (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon H.S.) assisted on Sanchez’s successful attempt.

“We looked hungry going forward tonight,” Birkey said. “Brace, Dipascuale and a host of supporting players came together to give us a bucket of chances in the second period. It was very much a team effort. Hard work and quality is a dangerous combination at any level.”

Concordia outshot Oregon Tech 25-7 in the contest with Claudio Lazar (Ploiesti Romania) picking up the win after collecting two saves. Tanner Lee (Maui, Hawaii/King Kekaulie H.S.) stopped three shots while in goal for the Owls.

The Cavaliers also generated a season-best 12 corner kicks in the contest while allowing just one for OIT. Jimmy Merkley (Pocatello, Idaho) and Victor Corona (Milton Freewater, Ore./McLauglin H.S.) each registered a pair of shots for Oregon Tech.

Concordia returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Northwest Christian at Delta Park. Opening kick is set for 4 p.m. Oregon Tech will continue its road trip when it plays at Corban University in Salem, Ore.
