BOX SCORE

COLUMBIA, Ky.—
The No. 1 ranked Concordia (7-0-0) women’s soccer team defeated No. 5-ranked Lindsay Wilson (4-2-0) in the opening game for both teams at Lindsey Wilson’s KELME Classic held in Columbia, Kentucky.

The Cavaliers will face No. 7 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) (2-1-2) on Saturday.  Martin Methodist fell 2-1 to No.  6 Cal Baptist (5-1-0) in the early match on Friday afternoon.

Concordia’s Kaitlyn Tebbs (Bend, Ore./Bend H.S.) scored the lone goal in the game in the 73rd minute with an assist from Lauryn Helmers (Puyallup, Wash./Emerald Ridge H.S.).

“This game was exactly what we had anticipated. Lindsey has been proven to be a tough team, especially at home,” CU head coach Grant Landy said. “We really struggled early on with finding our rhythm and dictating the pace, but we started to build some momentum toward the end of the first half and we really were able to turn things around in the second half.”

Neither team would get many shots off as Concordia finished with a 6-5 overall edge in attempts. The Cavalier however, finished with a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal and generated two corner kicks against a single opportunity for the Blue Raiders.

Tori Talbutt (Boise, Idaho/Capital H.S.) made one save for the shut out win, helping extend CU’s streak to seven matches without allowing a score. Talbutt now has 18 saves in 585 minutes of scoreless action in front of the net for the Cavaliers.

Jordan Morrison, the LWC keeper stopped two saves while taking the loss.

“This is a difficult place to play and to come in here and not allow a goal was fantastic,” Landy said. “This is a great experience for our team. We will need to play well again tomorrow against a strong Martin Methodist team.”

With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 2-2-0 all-time against Lindsey Wilson with the tree previous meetings occurring in the NAIA National Championships. Concordia is 0-1-2 all-time against Martin Methodist. Saturday’s match will be the first between the two clubs in the regular season.
