Senior Steve Landis posted the best individual finish of his career, as the four-year Warrior posted a runner-up showing at this weekend's Pacific Invitational.
Landis-Led Corban Finishes 3rd at Pacific Invite
FINAL RESULTS
BANKS, Ore. – Thanks to a double eagle at the par 5 third hole, senior Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) finished second individually and helped lead Corban's men's golf team to a third place showing at the Pacific Invitational Monday played at Quail Valley Golf Course.
In the process of posting his best career finish, Landis became the first Warrior in program history to record a par 5 score of two. Using a driver off the tee, Landis landed the ball in the center of the fairway on the 530-yard third hole. After a drive of nearly 300 yards, Landis pulled a 3-wood out of his bag and unleashed a shot that took one bounce on the green before disappearing into the bottom of the cup for the unprecedented albatross.
In concluding the tournament as the runner-up, Landis posted a two-round combined total of 7-over 151 (76-75). The Warrior team captain posted his 12th round of 75-or-better and came within two strokes of his career-best single round score.
Joining Landis in the Top 5 was junior Joey Ziogas (Salem, Ore.), as the first-year Warrior finished in a two-way tie for third with a 36-hole total of 8-over 152 (73-79).
Junior Joey Duwe (Kingston, Wash.) posted a 13th place showing individually with a two-day total of 13-over 157 (80-77), while fellow junior Chris Dudley (Boise, Idaho) finished in a four-way tie for 14th with a 36-hole total of 14-over 158 (81-77) to round out the scoring quartet for Corban.
Playing as part of the team, but not counting in the scoring total was junior Michael May (Salem, Ore.) with a combined two-day total of 15-over 159 (81-78) to finish tied for 18th overall. Senior Jared Rust (Palo Cedro, Calif.) competed as an individual and finished 26th overall with a 36-hole score of 23-over 167 (82-85).
As a team, Corban posted a two-round combined score of 41-over 617 (310-307) and was 13 strokes behind tournament-host Pacific (296-308=604). Individually, Pacific's Max Bonk earned medalist honors with a combined 36-hole score of 4-under 140 (71-69), as he won the event by 11 strokes over Landis.
Corban's men's golf team will return to the links on Friday, September 24th, at the one-day Linfield Invitational being played at Michelbrook Country Club in McMinnville. The first tee time is scheduled for noon.
