The Evergreen State Volleyball team earned a hard fought win last Friday versus the visiting Owls of Oregon Tech.  The Geoducks won the emotional five-set thriller by the scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 16-25, 21-19.  Jazzmin Garcia (Soph/Kirkland, WA) had a stellar night posting 23 kills, while adding 11 digs for another double-double on the season.  Caitlin Swift (Senior/Seattle, WA) was also very productive for the Geoducks, earning 10 kills, 14 digs and 3 blocks.  Erin Mitchell (Freshman/Santa Cruz, CA) dished out 40 assists for the match.  Defensively, Chantal Petkus (Junior/Richland, WA) led the way with 36 digs for the evening.

Saturday afternoon saw the Geoducks take on the 14th-ranked Raiders from Southern Oregon University.  SOU swept Evergreen State in three sets (25-10, 25-21, 25-19).  Following the first set, the Geoducks were determined to put up a fight, posting one of their best offensive efforts of the season by hitting .314 in the second set.  Jazzmin Garcia again led the way on the both sides of the ball with seven kills and 11 digs.  Caitlin Swift and Jasmine Horton (Junior/Seattle, WA) each added six kills for the match.

With a 2-3 conference record (3-6 overall), the Geoducks currently sit in seventh place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.  Statistically, Jazzmin Garcia (Soph/Kirkland, WA) currently leads the conference in kills per game average at 4.05/kpg.  Defensive specialist, Chantal Petkus (Junior/Richland, WA) is currently third in digs per game with a 5.53/dpg average.  Erin Mitchell (Freshman/Santa Cruz), is fifth among conference setters with a 8.37/apg average.  As a team, the Geoducks are ranked second in the conference in digs per game with a 17.21/dgp average.

The Geoducks head to Portland, Oregon this coming weekend for a pair Cascade Collegiate Conference matches.  Friday night, Evergreen State will battle Warner Pacific at 7:00pm.  Next, on Saturday evening, the Geoducks will take on Concordia University, also at 7:00pm. Following their upcoming trip to Portland, the Evergreen State Volleyball team will be home for consecutive weekends.
