Corban Comeback Takes Down Oregon Tech
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Oregon Tech volleyball team took a 5-0 lead in the final set but was unable to come up with a win, as Corban University came roaring back to tie the contest at 5-5 and eventually move on to a 15-13 win in the final stanza.
With the five set loss (25-19, 17-25, 17-25, 25-19, 13-15), Oregon Tech drops to 9-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play. With the win Corban University improved to 5-3 on the season and 3-3 in the conference standings.
Statistics would say Oregon Tech won the contest, as the Owls led in every statistical category. Tech put away 51 kills to Corban’s 43 and out blocked their opponent 12-to-10. Oregon Tech finished with 47 assists compared to 41 for the Warriors, while also leading in aces (8-to-5) and defensively tallied 77 digs to CU’s 71.
Tech’s Megan Christensen led the way with a match-high 15 kills, followed by Kristen Walters with 9. Mindy Rencher and Mikayla Morgan combined for 15 kills, with Morgan also assisted on five blocks. Sarah Svedin came away with 27 assists and Kayleigh Whelchel 11. Bridget Harrison led Tech on the defensive end with 17 digs with Svedin adding 12. Katelyn Louden finished with five block assists to go with four kills, while Christine Bansen came up with two solo blocks and assisted on two others.
Corban’s Chandra Baskoro and Bailey Wold finished with 10 kills each on a combined 77 attack attempts in the victory for the Warriors. Tiffany Land and Jenny Harman tallied 8 kills each, while Bethany Durre helped the cause with 25 digs, followed by Baskoro with 11.
Oregon Tech will face Northwest Christian University tomorrow, while Corban travels to Southern Oregon University.
