CU Men’s Golf Squad Finishes Eighth at St. Martin’s Invite

OLYMPIA, Wash.—In a field featuring NAIA schools as well as NCAA Division II and Division III members, Concordia placed eighth out of 17 teams at the St. Martin’s Invitational held at Hawks Prairie Golf Course on Friday.
Concordia (295-291-281—867) lowered its score in each round of play. After firing an 11-over 295 to sit in 11th place after the first round, the Cavaliers returned with a 7-over 291 in the second round and finished with a 3-under 281 for the fifth-best score in the third and final round of play.
Western Washington (273-280-278—831) won the team crown by five strokes over Chico State (285-278-273—836) while British Columbia (282-286-280—848) placed third overall as the top tree teams finished below par.
Xavier Dailly (67-69-70—206) of WWU took medalist honors by a single stroke over Chico State’s Kyle Souza (71-67-69—207).
Jesse Heinly (75-69-68—212) led the Cavaliers by placing in a four-way tie for 12th place out of 88 competitors. Heinly opened with a 4-over 75 in the first round to tie for 44th place through 18 holes, but posted a tie for the fifth best score in the next to rounds of play to leap more than 30 spots and climb inside the top 15.
Taylor Schmidt (72-78-68—218) recovered from a 7-over 78 in the middle round, by shaving 10 strokes off his score in the final tour with a 3-under 68, concluding the tournament with a share of 31st place.
Matching par, Jed Dalton (71-72-76—219) opened with the team’s top score in the opening round and followed with a 1-over before slipping to a tie for 35th with a 76 over the final 18 holes.
Finishing as CU’s No. 4 and No. 5 individuals, Jonny Miller (77-74-70—221) and Jared Moe (79-76-75—230) improved in each round of action with Miller ending the event with a 1-under 70 to tie for 43rd and Moe with a 4-over 75 to finish in 67th.
Concordia returns to action on Oct. 11-12 when it travels to compete in the Corban Classic held at Creekside C.C.
