PORTLAND, Ore. -- Ten student-athletes in the sports of volleyball, soccer, cross country and golf have been accorded Red Lion Player of the Week honors, the Cascade Collegiate Conference office announced Monday.
Volleyball
Hitter – Raluca Dinca of Concordia University, a 5-10 senior outside hitter from Portland, Ore., was named the Red Lion Hitter of the Week. Dinca averaged 4.64 kills and 4.27 digs per set to boost CU to a 3-0 record. In a 3-0 win over Evergreen, Dinca hit an impressive .720 with 19 kills and only one error. She had a career-best 25 digs in a 3-2 win over Northwest. Honorable mention: Sarah Harris, College of Idaho; Lauren Holtz, Northwest; Irene Walters, Eastern Oregon; Tiffany Land, Corban; Sarah Holgen, Southern Oregon; Emily Damschen, Warner Pacific; Megan Christensen, Oregon Tech; Jazzmin Garcia, Evergreen.
Setter – Lindsay Mangan of Concordia University, a 5-8 freshman from Huntington Beach, Calif., was named the Red Lion Setter of the Week. Mangan averaged 44 assists per match as the Cavaliers posted victories over George Fox, Northwest and Evergreen. Mangan had a career-high 56 assists in a 3-2 win over Northwest. Honorable mention: Cori Wallace, Northwest Christian; Madie Machurek, College of Idaho; Lauryn Ernster, Northwest; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Megan Dees, Corban; Lindsey Stone, Southern Oregon; Melita Elliot, Warner Pacific.
Libero – Whitney Owen of College of Idaho, a 5-11 senior from Caldwell, Idaho, was named the Red Lion Libero of the Week for the second time this season and 12th time in her career. Owen had 58 digs in two matches, including 39 in a 3-2 win over Eastern Oregon, which ranks as the second-highest total in program history. Honorable mention: Kaitlyn Duncan, Eastern Oregon; Bethany Durre, Corban; Becky Johnstone, Southern Oregon; Sam Kolakowski, Warner Pacific; Bridget Harrison, Oregon Tech; Chantal Petkus, Evergreen.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Gus Bermudez of Corban University, a 5-9 junior forward from Culver City, Calif., was named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. In two matches, Bermudez extended his scoring streak to five games, accounting for all three Warrior goals over the weekend. He had two goals in a 2-1 win over Northwest and one goal in a 2-1 loss to Evergreen. In his last five games, he has eight goals and two assists. Honorable mention: Mats Boehnke, College of Idaho; Facundo Dipascuale, Concordia; Alija Sacirovic, Warner Pacific; Victor Corona, Oregon Tech.
Defensive – Shaunovan Wilson of Concordia University, a 6-2 junior defender from Jackson Town, Jamaica, was named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. Wilson helped the Cavs to a pair of shutout victories as CU extended its winning streak to seven straight. He also scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Evergreen. Since Wilson moved into the starting lineup, CU has allowed just two goals in seven games. Honorable mention: Aaron Reynolds, College of Idaho; James Myrvold, Corban; Tanner Lee, Oregon Tech; Casey Collins, Evergreen.
Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Stephanie Carr of Southern Oregon University, a 5-9 sophomore forward from Upland, Calif., was named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. In the Raiders’ lone match, Carr scored a pair of goals as SOU rolled to a 4-0 non-conference victory over Simpson University. Honorable mention: Lauren Robideau, Eastern Oregon; Rachel Cole, Corban; Kaitlyn Tebbs, Concordia; Katie Miller, Warner Pacific; Rebekah Nisbet, Oregon Tech.
Defensive – Tori Talbutt of Concordia University, a 5-7 sophomore goalkeeper from Boise, Idaho, was named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. Talbutt picked up her eighth victory of the season and extended her shutout streak to more than 770 minutes as CU posted a 4-0 non-conference victory over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.). Talbutt, who has not allowed a goal in nine starts, leads the NAIA with a 0.00 goals against average. Honorable mention: Ali Foster, Northwest Christian; Chantal Schefers, Eastern Oregon; Melissa Malone, Corban; Mila Miller, Warner Pacific.
Cross Country
Men – None selected.
Women – Karissa Carlson of The Evergreen State College, a junior from Pateros, Wash., was named the Red Lion Runner of the Week. Carlson bettered her course PR by more than 30 seconds at the St. Martin’s Invitational, clocking a time of 24:15 over the 6K layout.
Golf
Men – Steve Landis of Corban University, a senior from Gladstone, Ore., was named the Red Lion Golfer of the Week. Landis posted the best individual finish of his career, as the fourth-year Warrior recorded a runner-up showing at the Pacific (Ore.) University Invitational, carding rounds of 76-75—151. Honorable mention: Jesse Heinly, Concordia; Andrew Johnson, Warner Pacific.
Women – Trish Gibbens of College of Idaho, a sophomore from Caldwell, Idaho, was named the Red Lion Golfer of the Week for the second consecutive week. Gibbens fired an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors in the Yotes’ dual vs. NCAA Division I Boise State. Gibbens helped C of I to a team score of 314, the lowest round in Coyote history.
