SALEM, Ore. – Behind a combined 30 kills by junior Tiffany Land (Independence, Ore.) and sophomore Chandra Baskoro (Gresham, Ore.), Corban's women's volleyball team opened its 2010 season with a 3-1 victory over NCAA Division III member Lewis & Clark Wednesday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Baskoro would register a match-high 17 kills to go along with 10 digs, while Land chipped in with 13 kills and four blocks en route to helped the host Warriors to a four-set victory (25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19).

Freshman Bailey Wold (Spokane, Wash.) added nine kills and 11 digs, while junior Megan Dees (Tehachapi, Calif.) handed out a team-leading 18 assists to go along with 16 digs. Freshman libero Bethany Durre (Bend, Ore.) anchored Corban's back row with a match-high tying 21 digs, while sophomore Jenny Harman (Salem, Ore.) added a match-high six blocks.

The opening set was dominated by the Warriors thanks to a 9-1 lead out of the gate before Lewis & Clark used a 16-11 run to pull within 19-17 following a combo block by Katherine Fiedler and Margaret Dowling. Corban would push its lead back to five points (23-18) thanks to a Land kill before closing out the set with another kill by the third-year Warrior for the two-point win (25-23).

Set #2 opened similar to the first set, as Corban jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead and never relinquished it. The Warriors would settle for a six-point win (25-19) via a set-closing Baskoro kill.

The third set was a see-saw battle between both teams that resulted in a 20-20 tie before Lewis & Clark settled for a set-closing 5-1 run following a rotation error by the visiting Pioneers that resulted in a four-point (25-21) LCC win.

Set #4 would begin as a back-and-forth battle before Corban used a match-closing 17-11 run after the set was knotted at 8-8 for the victory that came via Baskoro's 17th and final kill of the evening.

Lewis & Clark was led by Jennifer Dowdy, who tallied 10 kills to go along with Leia Matsunaga's match-high 32 assists. Lou Ohki would tie Durre with a match-high 21 digs from her back row position, while Alicia Callejo-Black added two blocks.

Corban improves to 1-0 on the season, while Lewis & Clark opens its 2010 campaign at 0-1. The Warriors will get a 48-hour break before returning to the court for its opening Cascade Collegiate Conference match of the season against Eastern Oregon beginning at 7:00 p.m. in La Grande.
