Chantal Petkus is currently ranked first in conference and eighth nationally in digs per game.
The Evergreen State Volleyball team recently traveled to Portland to take on two Cascade Collegiate Conference opponents in both Warner Pacific University and Concordia University. In both matches Evergreen was swept 3-0.
On Friday evening, the Knights of Warner Pacific won by the scores of 25-14, 25-23, 25-23. After losing a tough first set, the Geoducks battled and created opportunities in both the second and third sets but couldn’t hang on for a victory. For the match, Jasmine Horton (Junior/Seattle, WA) hit a career high .588 with 10 kills on 17 attempts, without an error. Jazzmin Garcia (Sophomore/Kirkland, WA) added eight kills on the evening. Defensively, Chantal Petkus (Junior/Richland, WA) led the way with 17 digs.
On Saturday, the Geoducks faced the Cavaliers of Concordia University. Concordia controlled the match from the opening serve, winning by the scores of 25-14, 25-10, 25-19. Chantal Petkus led the way again defensively, tallying 17 digs for the second consecutive evening. The Geoducks next return home for two weekends of conference action.
In the CCC statistics Evergreen's own Chantal Petkusis leading the way in digs per game, with an average of 5.82. Her consistently strong defensive play has placed her in the number one spot in the conference and the number eight overall spot in national standings! Petkus is a Junior from Richland, Washington where she attended Hanford High School before coming to Evergreen as a freshman in 2008.
Evergreen Volleyball welcomes the next two weekends of Cascade Conference play at home starting with Eastern Oregon University on Friday and College of Idaho on Saturday.
