NU Eagles Sweep Two in L&C Tournament

PORTLAND, Ore. - Northwest University swept George Fox and Lewis & Clark College of the Northwest Conference today in the Lewis & Clark Tournament. NU has swept three straight opponents including last night's 3-0 conference victory over the Evergreen State College.
 
In the morning match, the Eagles defeated George Fox U. (0-2) 25-16, 25-16, 25-13 to improve their season record to 3-2 and1-0 in conference play. Junior Anu Akamine (Hauula, Hawaii) led NU in kills with 10 while setter Lauryn Ernster (Soph., Bothell, Wash.), returning to action after an injury, had a match high 29 assist. Senior Lauren Holtz (Brier, Wash.) added 6 kills and 13 digs.
 
NU (4-2, 1-0) came back for the 2 p.m. contest with host Lewis & Clark (0-3) and duplicated the sweep, 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-21) as Kacie Simpson (Sr., Renton, Wash.) led the Eagles with 10 kills. Lauryn Ernster led NU again with 21 assists and teammate Lauren Ernster added 13 digs.
 
"We started out the day ready to go and played well," said coach Jessie Dietrich. "That continued in the second match, but then we let down a little after the first game but we pulled it out. I would have liked a little bit better focus all the way through," Dietrich concluded.
