Schmitz Leads Warriors to Win at Corban Invite

SALEM, Ore. – Freshman Christi Schmitz (North Pole, Alaska) led a quintet of Corban women's cross country runners that finished in the Top 10, as the Warriors captured the 4th annual Corban Invitational Saturday on the all-new Warrior Course.
Schmitz clocked a 3K time of 11:52.73 to win the race by more than eight seconds ahead of fellow Warrior and junior Courtney Welling (Springfield, Ore.). The third-year Warrior turned in a time of 12:01.57 to finish second, while a trio of Corban runners – sophomore Amy Renfro (Albany, Ore.), freshman Ariana Cole (Yakima, Wash.), and freshman Hannah Whitehead (Lebanon, Ore.) – finished in the Top 10 individually.
Corban's combined team time of 1:03:06.60 equaled 22 points, which outlasted Lane Community College by 15 points.
Other Warrior runners included senior Bianca Davis (Ontario, Ore.), sophomore Kate Tracy (Eagle, Idaho), freshman Mesha Perkins (Sherwood, Ore.), sophomore Melody Haidle (Ontario, Ore.), freshman Karlen Yallup (Warm Springs, Ore.), freshman Rebecca Cox (Parma, Idaho), and sophomore Rebecca Stanton (Springfield, Ore.).
Lane Community College's top performer was Rachel Jensen, who finished third overall thanks to a time of 12:05.65. Meanwhile, New Hope Christian College registered four runners with Kylie Saito posting the team's best finish with a 22nd place showing overall in a time of 15:29.28. Fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference member Warner Pacific ran three runners with Kayla Winkle posting the best finish with a 12th place showing with a time of 13:09.20.
Corban will return to the course on in two weeks – Saturday, October 18th – at the CCC Preview Meet beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Klamath Falls.
