Carr's Header Gives Raiders OT Victory
ASHLAND, ORE. -- Southern Oregon's Stephanie Carr buried a header in overtime to give the Raiders a 1-0 victory over Linfield today in women's soccer action at University Field in Ashland. The Raiders are now 2-1-1 on the season and host Hope International at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Despite the 1-0 score, both teams had plenty of chances to score. Southern Oregon finished with 13 shots on goal and Linfield finished with 11.
In overtime, Carr was able to come up with the header from eight yards out after a perfect corner kick by Alexis Mahoney.
"Linfield did a great job and came out and played a tempo that didn't really favor us," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "We were able to score on really nice composed header, but we need to learn to be more patient overall."
SOU goalie Jessica Kuehlwein finished with 11 saves on the day in just over 97 minutes of work. Sara Switzer finished with four shots for the Raiders, while Denise Powell had three shots and Stacy Szeto and Mahoney finished with two shots each.
Kelsey Hasselblad had 12 saves for the Wildcats, while Sara Blake had three shots.
