EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Middle Blocker Chelsie Joyce had a dominant night for the Beacons with ten kills, leading the Northwest Christian University volleyball team to a sweep of Walla Walla University on Wednesday night, 25-14, 25-17, 25-23.

Joyce posted the best single-match hitting percentage in three years, going 10-for-16 with just two errors for a .500 attacking clip. She added a pair of blocks to her efforts as well.

The Beacons cruised through the first set, hitting .407 as a team while Walla Walla had five kills and nine errors for a -.143 hitting percentage. The Beacons had 11 assists in the set from freshman Cori Wallace and Maren Mansfield began and ended her night with four kills.

NCU began to dip into the reserves over the final two sets, but the results stayed the same as the Beacons finished out the sweep. Walla Walla did lead for most of the third set, but strong serving from Dana Clark down the stretch helped NCU come back for the win.

The Beacons (3-5) had the ten-kill night for Joyce, followed by six from senior Cassie Bishop, who added eight digs. Bridget Marasigan and Clark led the defensive efforts with nine digs each with Clark adding a pair of aces. Cori Wallace finished the night with eight digs, five kills and 27 assists.

Walla Walla (0-11) were led by Natalie Wilkening with six kills. Heather McFadden and Jami Olerich added four kills each and Danielle Diaz led all players with eleven digs.

Northwest Christian will be back in action on Friday when they resume Cascade Collegiate Conference action with a home game against Evergreen State (1-4) at 7:00 pm.
