BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Junior Thomas Brempong (Kumasi, Ghana) scored a pair of second half goals, as Corban's men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season via a dominating 4-0 victory over the visiting Wolves of Walla Walla Wednesday on Warrior Field.

Sophomore Peter Martin (Salem, Ore.) got the scoring started early when he netted his first goal of the season in the 5th minute off a combo assist from junior Louis-Claude Nguea-Njoh (Douala, Cameron) and sophomore T.J. Bacewich (Sherwood, Ore.). The play began with a bang-bang pass between Nguea-Njoh and Bacewich that found the foot of Martin, who calmly deposited the ball into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.

Corban would hold its slim one-goal lead into halftime before Brempong scored his second goal of the season a mere five minutes and 57 seconds into the final period. The first-year Warrior would team with freshman goalkeeper James Myrvold (Sandy, Ore.) for the goal, as Myrvold sent a clearing kick the length of the field that took one bounce and ended up on the foot of Brempong. The junior from Ghana wasted no time in going one-on-one with Walla Walla's keeper before placing the ball into the lower right corner of the goal.

Just over 30 minutes later, Nguea-Njoh scored his first goal of the season via a penalty kick after a Wolf defender was whistled for a hand ball in the box. After placing the ball on the PK circle and hearing the referee's whistle, Nguea-Njoh beat WWU's net-minder with a shot into the lower left corner.

With just under two minutes remaining in the game, Brempong netted his second goal of the afternoon off an assist from freshman Aaron Kinnes (Gladstone, Ore.) for his third goal of the season. Kinnes would begin the scoring sequence by taking the ball down the far sideline before directing a pass through the box to a diving Brempong, who scored the game's final goal with a Walla Walla defender drapped on top of him.

The host Warriors would out shot Walla Walla, 27-10, and controlled the offensive flow throughout the game with 12 corner kicks compared to the Wolves' one.

Myrvold would register six saves in between the pipes for Corban, while Jon McLean grabbed a game-high eight saves for Walla Walla with his defenders also tallying a pair of saves.

All 16 available players for Corban would see at least two minutes on the field, while Walla Walla did not send a substitute into the game for the entire 90 minutes.

With today's result, Corban improves to 1-1-1 overall and Walla Walla remains without a win in three games this season. The Warriors will return to the field on Friday, September 10th, against NCAA Division III member Linfield beginning at 7:00 p.m. in McMinnville.
