Incoming women's soccer recruit Sierra Brusven should add depth and scoring to Corban's women's soccer team next season, as the former Silverton Fox is the school's all-time leader in goals scored with 39.
Corban Begins Class of 2015 With Local Talent
SALEM, Ore. – Sixteenth-year head coach Marty Ziesemer wasted little time in reloading for next season, as Corban's women's soccer team kicked off next year's recruiting class with local talent Sierra Brusven (Silverton, Ore.) from Silverton High School.
"Sierra is a quality player that will enhance our offense with her scoring ability and her understanding of the game," said Ziesemer. "She is a competitor who dislikes losing and will give us 100% every practice and game. She is also quality person who will add to our team chemistry. I look forward to watching her develop as she transitions to the college game."
Brusven, a 5-foot-3 forward/midfielder, comes to Corban after playing three seasons at nearby Silverton High School where she helped lead the Foxes to a 9-3-2 win-loss record as a senior. At the conclusion of her senior season, Brusven was named team Most Valuable Player and 1st team all-league after scoring 15 goals and handing out six assists in 14 games.
Prior to her senior season, Brusven was named all-league honorable mention as a sophomore before earning all-league 2nd team honors as a junior. Silverton High School's all-time leading goal scorer with 39 goals, Brusven helped the Foxes to a school-record nine shutouts and the Sportsmanship Award from the Salem Soccer Referee's Association in 2010.
Along with her high school accomplishments, Brusven was also a member of Silver Falls Soccer Club Emeralds from 2002-08. While playing for the Emeralds, Brusven helped lead her team to first place finishes at five tournaments that included the Canby United Soccer Association Fall Classic League (2004), Mid-Valley Soccer League (2005), Memorial Day Soccer Tournament (2007 & 2008), and the Cascade Futbol Club Waterfront Tournament (2008). Brusven was also named back-to-back team Most Valuable Player for the Emeralds following the 2004 & 2005 seasons.
Corban is coming off a second place finish in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, as well as a fourth place showing at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) . The Warriors finished the 2010 season with a win-loss record of 17-6-0 that included a league record of 7-2-0.
The 2011 schedule is tentatively scheduled to begin with a home game on Thursday, August 18th, against Trinity International University. Kick off time is still to be determined.
