Red Hot Knights Upset Concordia
PORTLAND, Ore. – A hot-shooting Warner Pacific women’s basketball team upset league leading Concordia 88-54 tonight at C.C. Perry Gym. The point total is the most by the Knights this season.
The host Knights (11-9, 5-5 CCC) used a blistering 57.6 percent shooting effort to easily slide by the Cavaliers (15-7, 7-3 CCC), who managed just a 26.6 percent clip from the floor.
Much of the damage was done by the Knights in the first period, as WP outrebounded the Cavs 25-13 and scored 47 points on 16 of 31 shooting. Kelsey Mattsen was particularly effective for Warner Pacific, scoring 14 points on a variety of jump shots and drives to the rim.
The second half was more of the same as the Knight lead never dropped below 18 points. A 15-1 run by Warner Pacific late in the game pushed their advantage to the largest of the game (86-48) with 2:36 to play and the Knights cruised to the win.
Mattsen finished with a team high 19 points for Warner Pacific, while Miranda Holenstein added 17 points and six rebounds. Freshman Jessica Denmon contributed career highs of 12 points and 7 rebounds off the bench.
Danielle Clausen scored a game high 20 points for Concordia, and was the only Cavalier in double figures.
