Knights Fade to Black, Defeat No. 12 EOU
PORTLAND, Ore. – Freshman Josh Black scored a career high 15 points and went 5 of 8 from three point range to lead Warner Pacific to a 87-67 win over No. 12 ranked Eastern Oregon in Cascade Collegiate Conference play inside C.C. Gym tonight.
The host Knights (14-7, 7-4 CCC) held EOU to 35 percent shooting for the game as the Mountaineers (16-5 8-4 CCC) fired up 33 tries from behind the arc, making 10.
Jamar Johnson got EOU started early by hitting a pair of shots from distance, and the Mounties opened up a 14-11 lead. An 8-0 run from WP put the Knights in the lead 19-14 with 10:40 on the clock, but it was short lived as EOU retook the lead 28-27 just three minutes later. The rest of the period was back and forth as the lead changed hands eight times before Warner Pacific closed the half with a 10-3 burst to take a 45-37 lead into the break.
The second half belonged to the Knights, as their lead never dipped below eight points. A bucket from Traevone Bowie at the 11:37 mark gave WPC their largest lead up to that point (65-54). EOU made a run of eight straight points over the next minute capped by a Thomas McCarthy trey to cut the margin to 64-53, but Josh Black responded with three point goals on three straight possessions to push the advantage back out to 73-53 and the Knights cruised from there.
WPC’s Webster Moreland ranged inside and out for a game high 27 points, and turned in a double-double by adding 10 rebounds. Black added 4 assists to his 15 points. Bowie finished with 14 points and a season high nine rebounds.
McCarthy scored 15 points to lead EOU, hitting 5 of 7 tries from three point range. Jamar Johnson finished with 11 points.
Warner Pacific hosts College of Idaho tomorrow night, while Eastern Oregon heads across Portland to take on Concordia. Both games are at 7:30 pm.
