Corban's women's basketball team concluded its exhibition season Monday against the Vikings of Portland State in the Rose City.
Tale of Two Halves Results in Corban's Loss to D-I Vikings

PORTLAND, Ore. – In its final exhibition game of the season, Corban's women's basketball team played two different halves hanging tough with NCAA Division I member Portland State over the opening twenty minutes before succumbing to the Vikings in the second half and falling 96-55 Monday inside the Stott Center.
Sophomore Tess Bennett (Sutherlin, Ore.) scored a team-high 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, while senior Jennesa Miller (Mica, Wash.) added nine points and junior Becky Buhler (Clackamas, Ore.) registered eight points and a team-high six rebounds. The Warriors' bench provided a combined 11 points led by a six-point effort by sophomore Christy Mosier (Bend, Ore.), while junior Katie Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) was held to a mere two points by PSU.
The opening half would begin as a runaway for Portland State over the opening 14-plus minutes, as the host Vikings built an 18-point lead (33-15) following a free throw by Kelly Marchant at the 5:48 mark. Corban would close out the first half on a 14-5 run to pull within single digits (38-29) thanks to a jumper in the paint by senior Kayla Shaughnessy (Camano Island, Wash.) at the buzzer.
Over the final twenty minutes, Portland State would shoot an unbelievable 65.9% (27-for-41) from the field scoring three more points in the second half than Corban did in the entire game. On the other hand, the visiting Warriors would hit 11 field goals en route to posting 26 points in the final half.
Portland State was led offensively by Marchant with a game-high 22 points off the Vikings' bench, while Courtney VanBrocklin and Allie Brock added 19 and 15 points respectively. Brock also pulled down a game-high seven rebounds, while Eryn Jones handed out a game-high seven assists for the victorious PSU squad.
As a team, Corban combined to shoot 24-for-66 (36.4%) from the field to go along with a 4-for-14 (28.6%) showing from beyond the three-point arc and a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Portland State went a combined 42-for-74 (56.8%) from the field, 4-for-16 (25.0%) from long distance, and 8-for-15 (53.3%) at the charity stripe.
Tonight's loss did not effect Corban's overall win-loss record with the Warriors scheduling it as an exhibition contest, while Portland State counted the game towards its win-loss record improving to 7-6 overall. The Warriors will return to the court on Friday, January 7th, against Warner Pacific beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside C.C. Perry Gymnasium in Portland.
