Late Corban Charge Takes Down Oregon Tech
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Corban’s offense and defense showed up at the beginning and end, as the visitors jumped on host Oregon Tech over the first five minutes of the game, while a 9-0 run late sealed a 77-69 Cascade Conference victory for the visiting Warriors.
Oregon Tech staged a comeback and at the midway point trailed 16-12. A pair of Brittany Cherry free-throws would eventually tie the contest at 22 each, while a 4-0 run from that point gave Oregon Tech a 30-26 advantage with just under one minute on the clock.
CU’s Emily Tsugawa would close out the first half scoring, as her long range jumper inched the Warriors to within a single point, as OIT entered the locker room up 30-29.
Over the first 10 minutes of period two, the teams would see-saw, battling to six lead changes and seven ties before a Kassi Conditt offensive rebound and basket put Tech up 50-48 with 10 minutes remaining to play.
Corban’s Katie Steigleman gave the lead back to the visitors before a Conditt free-throw tied things up again, 53-53, with 9:12 to play.
The teams went scoreless over the next two minutes before two Karissa Dixon free-throws put the Owls up. OIT would score again to move up four points, 53-49, with 4:44 on the clock.
Corban, however, would continue to hang around and with under three minutes, took a one point lead. OIT’s Aundrea Albright gave the lead back to the Owls on the next possession, but a Tess Bennett basket for CU gave the visitors a lead they would not relinquish. OIT went dry and Corban scored the next nine points to seal a 77-69 CCC victory.
Three Owls finished in double digits led by a team-high 14 from freshman Karissa Dixon. Freshman Kassi Conditt added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Crissy Watts came away with 11 in the loss.
Jennesa Miller led the charge for the Warriors with 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Katie Steigleman added another double-double for Corban after coming away with 15 points and 11 boards in the win. Steigleman was held to just two first half points. Becky Buhler was CU’s third player to hit double figures with 11 points, while Emily Tsugawa chipped in eight points and handed out seven assists.
