Raiders Take Down Evergreen In OT

ASHLAND, ORE. -- The Southern Oregon men overcame a sometimes sluggish offense to hold Evergreen State for an 81-74 overtime victory tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

Southern Oregon improved to 11-6 overall and 4-3 in Cascade Conference play with the victory. The Raiders host Northwest Saturday night at 5:30. Evergreen fell to 5-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Kyle Tedder and Jordan Highland led SOU with 18 points each. Tedder went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line and Highland added 10 rebounds. Austin Wolfer added 12 points for the Raiders, while Kellen Hawley had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Mikey Hope led Evergreen with 19 points, while Johnny Sarysz had 18 points and Michael Brumsey added 12 points.

Evergreen State started the game on a 7-2 run before SOU came back.

The Raiders made 10 of its first 15 shots and took a 21-15 lead after a 3-pointer by Dex Daum at the 11:30 mark and then went ice cold.

SOU went 4:30 without scoring and Evergreen took a 33-31 lead in the halftime.

The Raiders made a run in the second half, cutting the Evergreen advantage to 37-35 with a steal and dunk by Highland. A Tedder 3-pointer cut the lead to 41-40 and then a tip-in by Hawley gave SOU the lead at 42-41 with 12:00 to play.

Armani Jackson added a pair of free throws for a 44-43 SOU advantage. Another Tedder 3-pointer made the lead 47-43 and Joe White then came off the bench for a 53-48 lead with just under eight minutes to play.

Sarysz answered for Evergreen with a 3-pointer to tie the game at 53-53. Another Sarysz gave Evergreen the lead again at 56-55 with 5:17 to play.

Larry Green pushed the Evergreen lead to 60-56 with a jumper with 3:00 remaining on the clock.

Free throws were the offense in the final couple minutes and Highland and Hope by went 1-for-2 for their respective squads with under a minute to play to send the game to overtime tied at 62-62.

In the extra period, Daum hit a 3-pointer for a 66-62 lead.

But again Evergreen came back as Josh Troyer hit a slashing layup to give the Geoducks a 67-66 advantage. The lead was shortlived as a pair of Tedder free throws put SOU back in front 68-67 with 2:40 to play.

Layups by Highland and Hawley gave SOU a 72-67 lead and free throws from then out iced the game for SOU.
