Tedder's Career Night Leads Raiders Past Eagles
ASHLAND, ORE. - Freshman Kyle Tedder went for a career-high 33 points to lead the Southern Oregon men to a 78-74 victory over 11th-ranked Northwest tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders have now won three in a row and improved to 12-6 overall and 5-3 in Cascade Conference play. SOU travels to arch-rival Oregon Tech next Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:30. Northwest dropped to 12-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Tedder's 33 points came on 10-for-14 shooting and included a 6-for-9 effort from the 3-point line. Jordan Highland added 14 points for the Raiders and Kellen Hawley had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Greg Peters led Northwest with 23 points, while Jordan Call finished with 16 and Daley Landon had 13.
After taking awhile to warmup, the Raiders finally got going with a Highland layup to cut the early Northwest lead to 13-10.
A deep 3-pointer by Tedder and a putback by Austin Wolfer gave SOU a 19-15 lead midway through the opening half.
The Raiders then warmed up from downtown, two more 3-pointers by Tedder and a 3-pointer by Sam Osofsky helped SOU take a 30-26 lead.
Hawley then scored on a fast break to give SOU a 34-26 lead with four minutes to play in the half.
Tedder's fourth 3-pointer of the half gave SOU a 38-31 lead and then the freshman brought the McNeal Pavilion crowd to its feet with a one-handed dunk over the top of a Northwest defender for a 42-35 halftime lead.
In the second half, a Highland 3-pointer gave SOU a 49-37 lead with 17:00 to play, but the Eagles started to chip away.
Call hit a pair of free throws with 7:50 to play to cut the SOU advantage to 59-58.
The Raiders kept the Eagles at bay and a layup by Highland and a fallaway jumper by Tedder gave SOU a 69-63 lead with 4:20 to play.
The Eagles had one more run and battled back and tied the game at 74-74 with 1:20 to play on a 3-pointer by Landon.
But the Raiders answered right back with a jumper by Hawley to give SOU a 76-74 lead with 40 seconds to play and Tedder iced it with free throws.
