KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but it was visiting Northwest that prevailed, grabbing a 69-65 victory from the Lady Owls tonight in Cascade Conference action.
Oregon Tech falls to 9-10 overall and 1-6 in the CCC standings. Northwest moves to 11-4 and 5-1 in conference play.
Tech’s offense would struggle for the first six minutes of action to trail the Eagles 14-5. It was NU still holding on to a substantial lead, 22-12, a the midway point of the opening period.
Over the course of the final 10 minutes of the first half, OIT would catch fire and eventually tie the contest at 30-30. Back-to-back baskets by freshmen Kassi Conditt and a buzzer-beating layup from Karissa Dixon gave OIT a 34-30 lead at the half.
A Brittany Cherry jumper with 13:31 to play helped the Owls to a 10 point cushion, while Tech would move out to 11 point lead, their largest lead of the night, with 11:05 remaining at 53-42.
A 13-3 run from NU, however, cut the Eagle deficit to just one point, 56-55, with exactly seven minutes remaining.
Neither team would separate from each other until an OIT turnover off an inbound play at midcourt proved costly. Northwest converted the TO into an easy layup to move in control, 68-65, with 45 seconds on the clock.
The Owls missed on their next possession, while an NU free-throw would ice the game and give the visitors the 69-65 win.
Kassi Conditt finished with a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Brittany Cherry was a rebound shy of her double-double finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds. Aundrea Albright netted 10 points, while Morgan Hofman added nine points and four assists.
The duo of Jessalyn Jackson and Kia Gibson totaled 20 points each, to tie for game-high honors, while grabbing a combined 15 boards to lead the Eagles to victory. Emily Drivstuen finished in double-digits with 11 points, followed by Brittney Marshall with nine.
