11 Named Red Lion Players of the Week
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Eleven student-athletes in the sports of volleyball, soccer, cross country and golf have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for the period ending Oct. 9.
The honorees:
Volleyball
Hitter – College of Idaho’s Torrey Hulsey, a 6-1 junior from Sutter, Calif., led the seventh-ranked Yotes in kills (32), blocks (13) and aces (6) to help C of I posted a trio of 3-0 victories and extend their win streak to 13.
Honorable mention: Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Breanna Covey, Northwest; Sarah Holgen, Southern Oregon; Melanie Miller, Concordia; Stephanie Peshlakai-John, Evergreen.
Setter – College of Idaho’s Kelsey Soos, a 5-9 junior from Santa Ynez, Calif., earned the award for a precedent-setting seventh consecutive week. Soos recorded her second double-double (24 assists, 10 digs) in a 3-0 win over Northwest Christian despite playing just two sets. In three matches, Soos totaled 83 assists and 17 digs.
Honorable mention: Emily Sampson, Eastern Oregon; Lauryn Ernster, Northwest; Caryn Westrick, Southern Oregon; Erin Mitchell, Evergreen; Lindsay Mangan, Concordia.
Libero – Eastern Oregon University’s Kaitlyn Duncan, a 5-5 junior from Prineville, Ore., became only the second player in EOU history to reach 1,000 career assists. Duncan is just six digs shy of reaching the EOU school record. The Mountaineers went 2-0 to improve to 12-7 overall.

Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Concordia University’s Jared Brace, a 5-9 junior forward from Vancouver, Wash., scored all four Cavalier goals to lead CU to a 4-3 win over arch-rival Warner Pacific. Brace had a hat trick in the game’s first 22 minutes, then added his fourth goal early in the second half.

Defensive: Corban University’s Steven Mason, a 5-10 freshman goalkeeper from Santa Rosa, Calif., picked up his fourth win of the season in the Warriors’ 4-0 victory over Northwest Christian. Mason had a pair of saves in 80 minutes.
Honorable mention: Aaron Reynolds, College of Idaho; Tanner French, Concordia.
Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Oregon Institute of Technology’s Hayley Smith, a 5-5 sophomore midfielder from Elko, Nev., had a hat trick in leading the Owls past Northwest Christian.
Honorable mention: Audrey Sullivan, Corban; Sydney Paulsen, Southern Oregon; Emma Neustel, Northwest; Anastasia Daniels, Evergreen; Jackie Hendrickson, Concordia.
Defensive – College of Idaho’s Aimee Pierson, a 5-6 freshman goalkeeper from Quartz Hill, Calif., had a career high 12 saves and held the fifth-ranked Cavs scoreless for the first 66 minutes in an eventual 1-0 setback.
Honorable mention: Jordan Holmes, Northwest; Lauren Davidson, Evergreen; Rebekah Matteri, Oregon Tech; Adrienne Lommasson, Concordia.
Cross Country
Male – College of Idaho’s Greg Montgomery, a junior from Boise, Idaho, won the individual title at the Coyote Twilight. Montgomery covered the 8,000 meter course in 25:08 for his third individual collegiate crown. The Yotes defeated Boise State and Northwest Nazarene.
Female – College of Idaho’s Sarah Johnson, a sophomore from Shelton, Wash., set a 5K course record (18:20) at the Coyote Twilight, helping the Yotes defeat Boise State, Northwest Nazarene, and Westminster.
Golf
Male – Corban University’s Joey Duwe, a senior from Kingston, Wash., led all CCC golfers at the NAIA Fall Preview in Salem, finishing fifth overall with a 36-hole total of 146 at Creekside GC. Duwe shot consecutive one-over rounds of 73.
Honorable mention: Taylor Schmidt, Concordia.
Female – College of Idaho’s Baylee Borchers, a sophomore from Meridian, Idaho, earned the first individual title of her collegiate career by capturing medalist honors at the NAIA Fall Preview in Greeneville, Tenn. Competing against seven nationally ranked teams, Borchers fired back-to-back 74s – the two lowest rounds of the tournament – to lead the Yotes to a fifth-place finish. Her 148 total was the second lowest in program history.
