EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University volleyball team took care of business on Friday night, knocking off Warner Pacific College in four sets, 25-15, 25-22, 17-25, 25-22. The Beacons hit .235 on the night and were led by the strong play of Cori Wallace (pictured), who posted her NCU-record tying eleventh double-double.
The Beacons collected 57 kills on the night while holding the Knights to just 40. WPC hit .138 in the game and was outblocked by Northwest Christian, 7-3. NCU had a hiccup in the third set, however, allowing Warner Pacific to hit a solid .458 as a team with 12 kills and just one attack error.
Head Coach Mike Gaffaney said, “He had a great game plan going into tonight. Our expectations are pretty high and when we don’t meet them it’s disappointing. The good thing is that we corrected those errors and improved during the match which shows the resiliency of this group of ladies.”
Warner Pacific (2-11, 1-11 CCC) was led by Kaylin Elms, hitting .385 with eleven kills. Kelsey Kurtz collected 28 assists and nine digs and Jacalyn Chew-Dorsey led all players with 25 digs.
Wallace ended the night with 42 assists and 12 digs, adding three blocks and six kills. She put down the final point of the night on a dump set, helping her to a .231 attack percentage. Maren Mansfield broke out of a recent slump with a match-high 15 kills, hitting .282 and Danielle Nance was a beast in the middle, securing four blocks and 12 kills while hitting a match-best .440. Dana Clark added 18 digs and three aces in the victory.
Northwest Christian (10-10, 5-7 CCC) will be back in action on Saturday night against Concordia. A win for NCU would push the Beacons into a tie with the Cavaliers for fifth place in the CCC and would tie a school record for conference wins.
Warner Pacific will be on the road at Corban University tomorrow night. Both games are slated for 7:00 starts.
