Individual Champions Karissa Carlson and Scott Minor
Carlson, Minor Win Trophies, Corban Sweeps Team Titles at WPC Invite
PORTLAND, Ore. - Corban University swept the men's and women's team titles at the 11th Annual Warner Pacific XC Invitational held at lents Park today.
The Warrior women placed five runners in the top 10, including second place Courtney Welling (19:31) to score a meet low 25 points ahead of Oregon Tech (36), host Warner Pacific (70), and Evergreen State (inc.).
The Corban men held off a challenge from Warner Pacific by placing four runners in the top ten and scoring 34 points compared to the Knights 41. Jacob Bowdoin paced the winners by placing second in a time of 29:02. Following Warner Pacific was Oregon Tech (51), and Evergreen State (103).
The men's race was a little longer distance than planned as the lead pack took a wrong turn on the first loop around the course, bringing the entire field along with them. The detour added 600 meters to the 8k distance and inflated performances for all of the athletes.
Karissa Carlson from Evergreen State was the individual women's champion, finishing the 5k course in 19:09.
Oregon Tech's Scott Minor won the men's race in 28:41.
