Aimee Pierson had 10 saves for Lady Yotes
CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho could not take advantage of a man-advantage, as the Lady Yotes and Northwest University played to a 2-2 draw in a Cascade Conference women’s soccer match-up at Simplot Stadium.
The Eagles (7-2-4, 3-0-2 CCC) played a man-down the final 44 minutes of the match due to a red card – but got a game-tying goal and turned away a flurry of C of I shots to earn the tie.
Tied 1-1 at the break, the Coyotes (4-7-1, 2-2-1) took just 15 seconds to score, as Kelly Hardegree-Ullman collected a free ball down the right side, launching a long 35-yard strike into the upper-left corner of the net.
NU would catch a bad break in the 67th minute, as Hannah Reeser was sent off the pitch for a second yellow card – but the visitors capitalized on a foul in the box three minutes later. Kirstie Walton had the penalty kick blocked by C of I keeper Aimee Pierson, but following a scrum in the box, collected the loose ball, and flicked home the tying goal.
The Yotes had four chances in the final five minutes of regulation to win the game – but NU keeper Jordan Holmes turned away each attempt. In the first overtime, Alex Suggs just missed a 15-yard blast high, with the Eagles’ Shea Samuelsen missed a 25-yard free kick midway through the period. In the second overtime, Holmes saved the game for NU, making a diving save of a Suggs shot in the 103rd minute.
The Eagles opened the scoring just eight minutes in, as Samuelsen played a perfect corner to the far side of the six-yard box, with an Abby Brauer header giving NU a 1-0 lead. The Coyotes would answer in the 20th minute, as Kayla Bigelow started a counterattack with a long ball up the right side, with Suggs hitting a shot off the crossbar, but Taylor Culver collected the rebound and slotted home the tally.
The C of I held a 26-20 edge in total shots, and a 13-12 edge in shots on goal – as Holmes made 11 saves for NU, and Pierson recorded 10 saves for Yotes.
The Lady Yotes hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches – Saturday at Southern Oregon and Monday at Oregon Tech.
