11 Student-Athletes Honored for On-Field Play

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Eleven student-athletes in the sports of volleyball, soccer, cross country and golf have earned recognition as Red Lion Players of the Week for the period ending Oct. 16, the conference office announced.

The honorees:

Volleyball

Hitter – Corban University’s Chandra Baskoro, a 5-7 junior from Gresham, Ore., led the Warriors’ offense with a combined 27 kills to help her team to a 2-0 record. Baskoro also had 22 digs, two service aces and two blocks.

Honorable mention: Megan Bartling, Southern Oregon; Danielle Montalbo, College of Idaho; Aria Nojima, Concordia; Stefani Sorensen, Eastern Oregon; Maren Mansfield, Northwest Christian.

Setter – College of Idaho’s Kelsey Soos, a 5-9 junior from Santa Ynez, Calif., totaled 88 assists as the Lady Yotes defeated Evergreen (Wash.) and Northwest (Wash.) to extend their win streak to 15 matches.

Honorable mention: Caryn Westrick, Southern Oregon; Megan Dees, Corban; Lindsay Mangan, Concordia; Lauryn Ernster, Northwest; Emily Sampson, Eastern Oregon; Cori Wallace, Northwest Christian; Kelsey Kurtz, Warner Pacific.

Libero – Concordia University’s Aubrie Concannon, a 5-3 senior from Portland, Ore., tallied 63 digs in two matches as the Cavs went 1-1 on a conference road trip. Concannon leads the CCC in average digs per game.

Honorable mention: Becky Johnstone, Southern Oregon; Bethany Durre, Corban; Whitney Brigham, College of Idaho; Heather Shulke, Northwest; Kaitlyn Duncan, Eastern Oregon; Dana Clark, Northwest Christian.

Men’s Soccer

Offensive – Northwest (Wash.) University’s Joel Pelton, a 6-0 junior forward from Sacramento, Calif., had three goals and two assists as the Eagles posted wins over Oregon Tech and College of Idaho. Pelton leads NU in scoring (10 goals, 5 assists).

Honorable mention: Steffan Bard, Corban; Jared Brace, Concordia; Brandon Wood, Evergreen.

Defensive: Concordia University’s Cole Dahle, a 6-0 junior goalkeeper from Wilsonville, Ore., helped key a pair of shutouts for the Cavs. Dahle started both games in goal and played a total of 170 minutes as CU defeated Corban and Northwest Christian. He had a combined six saves.

Honorable mention: Steven Mason, Corban; Joe Galbraith, Northwest; Christian Pettit, Evergreen.

Women’s Soccer

Offensive – Warner Pacific College’s Anna Blakeslee, a 5-7 junior from Brush Prairie, Wash., scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Northwest Christian, including the game-winning header with two seconds to play in overtime.

Honorable mention: Abigail Van Hoogen, Corban; Chelsea Heffner, College of Idaho; Alex Blalock, Concordia; Stephanie Carr, Southern Oregon.

Defensive – Concordia University’s Tori Talbutt, a 5-7 junior goalkeeper from Boise, Idaho, totaled four saves and did not yield a goal in 165 minutes of action. She helped the fourth-ranked Cavs post their second and third consecutive shutouts, and fourth in CCC action.

Honorable mention: Alexis Beattie, Corban; Chantal Schefers, Eastern Oregon; Jessica Kuehlwein, Southern Oregon.

Cross Country

Male – Northwest (Wash.) University’s Seth Bridges, a senior from Anderson Island, Wash., was the top CCC finisher at the Concordia/adidas XC Classic, placing third overall and clocking a time of 24:36 for the 8K course.

Honorable mention: Jacob Bowdoin, Corban; Greg Montgomery, College of Idaho; Ben Foubert, Concordia; Hans Roelle, Eastern Oregon; Scott Minor, Oregon Tech.

Female – Concordia University’s Gina Paletta, a freshman from Wrexham, Wales, placed third overall (and second among collegians) at the Concordia/adidas XC Classic. Paletta clocked a time of 17:46 for the 5K course.

Honorable mention: Courtney Welling, Corban; Sora Klopfenstein, College of Idaho; Karlee Coffey, Eastern Oregon; Karissa Carlson, Evergreen; Brittany Peterson, Northwest Christian; Ashley Baldovino, Oregon Tech.


Golf

Male – College of Idaho’s Austen Giese, a junior from Coto de Caza, Calif., shot a one-under 71 to help the Coyotes defeat nearby NCAA Division II rival Northwest Nazarene in a dual match. C of I finished with a one-day total of 293, the second lowest team score in program history.

Female – Northwest Christian University’s Sarah Crofcheck, a junior from Prineville, Ore., tied a career low with a second-round 79 at the Culturame Classic. She also set a career low for a two-round tournament with a total of 159. It was the fourth-best two-round score in school history.
