STATS - Concordia vs. Northwest Christian

PORTLAND, Ore.—Posting its fourth straight shutout,  the No. 4 Concordia women's soccer team topped Northwest Christian 5-0 on Monday.

The win extended an eight-match winning streak for the Cavs (11-3-1, 6-0-0 CCC) who also matched their best offensive effort this season with five goals.

Concordia opened the scoring in the 16th minute when midfielder Adrienne Lommasson played a ball deep up the left side of the field to forward Alex Thomas. Once with the ball, Thomas maneuvered away from a defender and sent a low shot across the goal to the right post from five yards out.

Thomas' goal put the Cavs up 1-0 and the forward nearly struck again in the 19th minute when another ball played up to her gave her a one-on-one with Northwest Christian goalkeeper Ali Foster. Before Thomas could hit a shot though, she was taken down from behind. That event prompted a red card and a free kick for CU senior Brittany Orr. With the ball 20 yards out, Orr sent a hard shot on the NCU goal that grazed a defender and found the net to put Concordia up 2-0.

The Cavalier offense could not add another goal before halftime though, even with a player advantage as NCU (1-12-0, 1-5-0 CCC) put a lot of players back on defense while Foster made several nimble saves in goal.

Concordia got it going early in the second half when forward Alex Blalock received a ball in the middle of the field from freshman Annika Hayman on the left-hand side. Blalock then skidded the ball across the ground from 10 yards out to the left corner.

Concordia had another good chance at a goal in the 63rd minute when CU's Sydney Tucker headed a ball toward the left post following a corner kick from Hayley Hayes. The ball appeared to be heading in when NCU's Alisandra Alcocer knocked the ball away for a team save. That kept the score at 3-0 until freshman Erin Huisingh padded the lead with another goal in the 77th minute. CU's Adrienne Lommasson started the play with a long pass up to Huisingh on the right-hand side that set the freshman up with a one-on-one with the NCU goalie from 15 yards out where the freshman scored her fourth goal of the season.

Finally, senior Jackie Hendrickson capped the scoring with her own goal in the 81st minute. This time, the play started off a corner that Huisingh played up the field to freshman Kellie Skofstad. Skofstad then sent the ball into the box between Hendrickson and NCU's charging goalkeeper, Foster. The first to arrive at the ball, Hendrickson sent in an easy shot from 10 yards out while facing an empty net.

Overall, Concordia recorded a season-best 35 shots, 13 of which were on goal, and added 13 corners.

In goal, Tori Talbutt opened the first half in goal for the Cavs and didn't allow any goals while facing one shot. CU's Robyn Neimann then stepped in for Talbutt at the start of the second half and preserved the team's ninth shutout of the season. For NCU, Foster saved seven shots while snuffing out several more Concordia chances with diving grabs of passes into the box.

Next up, Northwest Christian returns to Eugene, Ore. to face Corban University on Saturday, Oct. 22. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, also return to action on Saturday when they travel to face Northwest University who has not been beaten in conference so far this season.
