Aaron Reynolds picked up his 11th career shutout
CALDWELL, Idaho - Michael Meyer drove home the game-winner eight minutes into overtime, lifting The College of Idaho to a 1-0 victory over league-leading Northwest University at Simplot Stadium.
The Coyotes (4-6, 3-3 CCC) picked up their second-straight home win, recording their first shutout of the 2011 season.
Following a C of I corner kick, the Eagles (5-2-3, 4-1-1) were unable to clear the ball from the box, as Meyer collected the loose ball atop the 18, ripping the low liner into the left corner of the net for the Coyotes second overtime winner of the season.
Both teams squandered great opportunities in the second half - as NU nearly got on the board in the 52nd minute, when a C of I defensive breakdown left Taylor Young in the box with an open net, but his sliding try missed just left. Luke Fischer had a chance a minute later for the Eagles, but Coyote keeper Aaron Reynolds snuffed out the 1-on-1 chance. In the 70th minute, Brad Byers served a great corner for the Yotes, but an unmarked Spencer Ward missed an open header just high, while the Coyotes had three great chances in the final five minutes, but could not find the twine.
In overtime, Joel Pelton gave the Eagles their best chance, a long drive collected by Reynolds in the 93rd minute, before the Yotes set up their winning goal.
The C of I held a 19-17 edge in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks in the victory, as Reynolds picked up his 11th career shutout.
The Coyotes return to action next Friday, hosting Oregon Tech at 3 p.m.
