PORTLAND, Ore. – Corban University’s men’s soccer team, fresh off a pair of important Cascade Collegiate Conference road victories, has been named the CCC “Verizon Team of the Week” for the period ending Oct. 23, the conference announced Sunday.

Verizon is the official wireless provider of the CCC.

The Warriors, who have won six of their last eight matches, defeated Evergreen (Wash.) 5-3 and Northwest Christian University 2-0 to improve to 7-4 in conference play and 9-6 overall. Corban is just one win shy of equaling the most wins by a Warrior team since the 2004 team went 10-5-2.

In the victory over Evergreen, Corban fell behind 2-1 before erupting for four consecutive goals to take a 5-2 lead. Scoring for the Warriors were Tyler Hagen and Devin Chaney on penalty kicks, and a pair of goals by Aaron Kinnes. In the win over Northwest Christian, Kinnes and Steffan Bard scored to back up the shutout goalkeeping of Steven Mason. Derik Chaney had two assists during the week.

"The overall attitude of this team has been outstanding,” said second-year head coach Paul Meehan. “The players are able to balance the energy and enthusiasm you need to be successful in college soccer, with composure and professionalism on a daily basis.

“We learn from every match we play; some games generate more lessons than others, but for the most part we have been consistent and have focused on our performance. There is so much parity in this conference that teams can never get comfortable, and I feel for the most part we have showed up with the right attitude for just about every match. "

With the two wins, Corban has moved alone into third place in the CCC with 21 points.
