11 Earn Red Lion Player of the Week Honors
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Eleven student-athletes in the sports of volleyball, soccer, cross country and golf have earned Red Lion Player of the Week honors for the period ending Oct. 23, the conference office announced.
Red Lion Hotels is the official hospitality sponsor of the CCC.
The honorees:
Volleyball
Hitter – Oregon Institute of Technology’s Joey Parnell, a 5-8 senior from Lewiston, Idaho, averaged 19 kills and 10 digs in a pair of four-set victories for the Owls. Tech defeated Northwest Christian and Corban for their first sweep in CCC play this season.
Honorable mention: Clair Thiel, Concordia; Kylee Nawahine, College of Idaho; Sarah Holgen, Southern Oregon; Rebecca Haight, Eastern Oregon; Kim Mulka, Warner Pacific.
Setter – Concordia University’s Lindsay Mangan, a 5-8 sophomore from Huntington Beach, Calif., averaged 11.6 assists per set as the Cavs defeated Evergreen and Northwest. Mangan also added four important kills in a tight match vs. Northwest.
Honorable mention: Kelsey Soos, College of Idaho; Caryn Westrick, Southern Oregon; Lauryn Ernster, Northwest; Kelsey Kurtz, Warner Pacific; Sarah Svedin, Oregon Tech.
Libero – College of Idaho’s Whitney Brigham, a 5-11 senior from Caldwell, Idaho, tied a school record with 41 digs in a 3-2 win over Eastern Oregon.
Honorable mention: Aubrie Concannon, Concordia; Becky Johnstone, Southern Oregon; Heather Shulke, Northwest; Jacalyn Chew-Dorsey, Warner Pacific; Krystie Vea, Oregon Tech.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Corban University’s Aaron Kinnes, a 6-0 junior midfielder from Gladstone, Ore., tallied three goals as the Warriors defeated Evergreen and Northwest Christian. Corban moved into sole possession of third place in the CCC. Kinnes had two goals in a 5-3 win over Evergreen and one goal in a 2-0 victory over NCU.
Honorable mention: George Bundy, Evergreen; Aaron Reynolds, College of Idaho; Luke Fischer, Northwest; Almir Celebic, Warner Pacific; Evan Denmark, Concordia.
Defensive: College of Idaho’s Aaron Reynolds, a 5-11 senior goalkeeper from Boise, Idaho, recorded 12 saves and allowed just one goal in 200 minutes of action as the Yotes played 12th-ranked Concordia to a 1-1 draw and defeated Oregon Tech 2-1. Reynolds came out of goal to score the game-tying goal with five seconds left in regulation to help C of I to a tie with Concordia.

Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Corban University’s Audrey Sullivan, a 5-9 sophomore from Puyallup, Wash., scored five goals as the Warriors posted shutout victories over Warner Pacific and Northwest Christian. Sullivan had three goals in the win over Northwest Christian to become the first Warrior since 2008 to score a hat trick.
Honorable mention: Alex Thomas, Concordia; Diedre Dornay, Evergreen; Kennedy Roteman, Southern Oregon; Rachael Collins, Eastern Oregon; Meghan Drost, Oregon Tech.
Defensive – Concordia University’s Brittany Orr, a 5-7 senior defender from Federal Way, Wash., anchored a back line that yielded just one goal as the Cavs went 2-0. CU posted victories over Northwest Christian and Northwest.
Honorable mention: Lauren Davidson, Evergreen; Kaitlyn Mendenhall, Corban; Chenin Young, Southern Oregon; Rebekah Matteri, Oregon Tech.
Cross Country
Male – Southern Oregon University’s James Johnstone, a senior from Lake Arrowhead, Calif., was the top non-Division I collegian at the OSU Beaver Classic in Corvallis. Johnstone finished in a time of 25:05 to help SOU to a second-place team finish behind NCAA Division I entry University of Oregon.
Honorable mention: Jacob Bowdoin, Corban; Brian Bragg, Eastern Oregon.
Female – Eastern Oregon University’s Karlee Coffey, a junior from La Grande, Ore., clocked a 6K school record by finishing third in a time of 21:29 at the OSU Beaver Classic in Corvallis.
Honorable mention: Karissa Carlson, Evergreen; Courtney Welling, Corban; Seena Frantz, Southern Oregon.
Golf
Male – Concordia University’s Jesse Heinly, a sophomore from Bend, Ore., earned medalist honors at the Corban Invitational at Creekside Golf Club in Salem. Heinly fired a three-round score of 77-70-73—220. His two-under 70 was the low round of the tournament.
Honorable mention: Joey Duwe, Corban; Andrew Johnson, Warner Pacific.
Female – College of Idaho’s Trish Gibbens, a junior from Caldwell, Idaho, won her second event of the season, capturing the Corban Invitational in Salem. Gibbens shot rounds of 75, 73, and 74 at Creekside Golf Club.
Honorable mention: Katie Baker, Corban; Scotti Jo Helmick, Warner Pacific; Sara Molyneux, Concordia.
