NU Cruises Past Thompson Rivers in BC Tourney
ABBOTSFORD, BC – Northwest University pulled away from Thompson Rivers for a convincing 93-65 win in the Honda Classic Tournament in Abbotsford, BC tonight.
After a 18-18 tie after the first quarter, Northwest would out score TRU 21-7 in the second to take a 39-25 lead into halftime.
The Eagles (2-0) continued to pull away from TRU in the third and fourth quarters building a 30 point lead and outscoring the Wolfpack form Kamloops, BC, 54-40, as they would cruise to their second straight win over a Canadian opponent.
Four players scored double figures for Northwest led by Ahmaad Cook’s (Los Angeles, Calif.) 20 points in 21 minutes of play and hitting 7 of his 10 shots. Jordan Call (Kirkland, Wash.) finished with 17 points while teammates Michael Greene (Bellingham, Wash.) and Nemanja Grujicic (Ratkovo, Serbia) each tallied 15 points for the Eagles. Grujicic added 9 rebounds and also shot 70% (7-10) on the night. Jason Waltman (Monroe, Wash.) added 7 points and 7 rebounds. NU shot 57.8% for the night and a blistering 64% in the second half (23-36). The Eagles outrebounded TRU 39-30.
Northwest will play for the tournament championship tomorrow night when they face host, University of Fraser Valley at 7 p.m. Both Thompson Rivers and Fraser Valley are members of the Canada West Athletic Conference and governed by the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport).
