No. 4 Oregon Tech Opens Season With 68-38 Win Over Pacific Union
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Fourth-ranked Oregon Tech opened up the 2011-12 men’s basketball campaign with a decisive 68-38 victory over Pacific Union College this afternoon at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech(1-0) held Pacific Union (0-1) to just 35% from the floor (14-40), while the Owls shot 44% on 29-of-66 shooting to pick up their first victory of the year. Oregon Tech hit on 6-of-16 from long range and hit just four free throws on only six attempts for the contest.
Kyle Gomez led three Owl players in double figures with 13 points on 5-of-6 from the floor. Scotty Riddle finished with 11 points, while David Clarke added 10 in the win for OIT. Bobby Hunter recorded eight points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals in his first collegiate contest, while Alex Zerbach came away with six points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Will Bell led the Pioneers with 10 points, followed by eight each from Josh Jewitt and Collin Monty. Mike Giang and Taureaus Maxwell added six points each in the loss for PUC.
The Owls will look to improve on their school-record 58-game home win streak when they hosts Multnomah University this Saturday beginning at 2:30 PM.
