Luke Fischer (11) scored the game winner today.
Northwest Flies By Geoducks
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University notched their tenth win of the season as they shut out Evergreen, 3-0, in Cascade Conference play this afternoon in Kirkland.
NU's Luke Fischer scored just 3:02 into the first half as he scored from 12 yards out left of center off a double assist from teammates Edgar Esquivel and Mackenzie Samuelsen. The teams' defenses would take over the remainder of the half as none of the 13 shots taken would find the goal net.
In the 50th minute in the second half, Drew Jensen put his shot into the left corner of the net as he scored from 15 yards out on the right side. In the 81st minute, NU's Nickey Ricks took a through ball from Alfredo Martinez and scored into an empty net from 15 yards out on the left side.
Northwest's (10-4-3, 9-3-1 CCC) defense would limit Evergreen (4-10-2, 3-8-2 CCC) to 9 shots for the game while registering 20. Christian Pettit grabbed 7 saves for the Geoducks and Joe Galbraith earned the shutout for Northwest with 6 saves.
"The team played well today," said Eagle head coach, Gary McIntosh. "We set a goal to come out and have a shutout and score a few goals and we did just that. Joe (Galbraith) and the back line did a great job of containing Evergreen’s offense. This allowed the offense to get into a rhythm with their passing and create opportunities for goals. Joel (Pelton) had another great game and it was great to see senior’s Luke (Fishcer) and Drew (Jensen) get goals. The bench was key for us today, coming into the game and giving us a lift. Good to see Nickey (Ricks) get us a goal to cap off a great day."
Northwest clinches a spot in the CCC post season playoffs as they maintain a hood on second place in the CCC. NU will finish its regular season next Saturday as they host third place Corban.
