Eagles Shut Out Oregon Tech
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University scored in each half to shut out Oregon Tech, 2-0, this afternoon under sunny skies.
Acacia Johnson scored first for Northwest in the 16th minute as she took a pass from Rachel Saleen and right footed one in from 10 yards out on the right side. NU would take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Chelsea Pennington rocketed one in from 28 yards out just left of center to get by the OOIT goalkeeper. Shea Samuelsen had another opportunity in the 77th minute that just sailed high over the cross bar from 20 yards out.
Northwest U. (9-3-4, 5-1-2 CCC) doubled OIT's (5-8-1, 3-5-0 CCC) shot output 22-11, with 12 shots on goal. Oregon Tech goalkeeper, Rebekah Matteri, finished with 10 saves for the Owls (7 in the second half) while Jordan Holmes earned the shut out for the Eagles with 8 saves.
"I'm very pleased with the quality of soccer we played today," commented Erin Redwine, NU head coach. "We did well keeping the ball and reading each other."
The win sets up a show down on Monday as the Eagles host Southern Oregon, winners today against Evergreen. Southern is tied with Concordia for the league lead while the Eagles are in second, four points behind the leaders. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
