NU Defeats Beacons for Fourth Straight
EUGENE, Ore. - The Northwest University Eagles defeated Northwest Christian Monday afternoon, 1-0, to register their fourth consecutive win and fourth straight shutout to remain tied for first place in the CCC.
NU's Abby Brauer scored the game winner just one minute and 9 seconds into the game as she took Lindsey Fields' pass and went one-on-one with the Beacon goalkeeper Ali Foster to score the goal from 5 yards out on the left side.
The Eagle defense and goalie, Jordan Holmes would then hold NCU scoreless to raise their scoreless minutes to 360 consecutive minutes. Holmes made two outstanding saves in the second half on two breakaways by Beacon players to prevent scores. Holmes deflected Karli Vath's 18 yard shot for one save and then knocked away Katelyn Partridge's shot as she went one-on-one with Holmes after taking a through ball from teammate Miranda Cruz.
NU outshot NCU 6-0 in the first half, but the Beacons picked up the pace in the second, outshooting the Eagles 4-3.
"Kirstie's (Walton) leadership and play was outstanding today," stated Eagle head coach, Erin Redwine. "I wished we could have converted more scoring opportunities, but we're happy with the result."
With the win, the Eagles improves to 6-2-2 overall and hold onto a share of first place in the conference at 2-0. It was the Eagles’ fifth straight win over NCU. NU has gone 6-0-2 since their two opening losses to Point Loma Nazarene and Concordia (Calif.).
NU will now head to Olympia on Oct. 8 to play the Evergreen State College at 1 p.m. in more CCC play.
