Brace Nets 4, Cavs Net Win Over Warner Pacific
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. – Jared Brace scored all four goals for #15 Concordia in a 4-3 win over rival Warner Pacific at David Douglas High School today.
The four-goal game from Brace tied the second most ever by a Cavalier in a single game. The win also put distance between the Cavs and Warner Pacific in the conference standings as the Cavs improve to 10-1-0 overall and 6-1-0 in the CCC to remain in first. Warner Pacific, meanwhile, had been tied for second before the match against Concordia, but falls to 6-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the CCC after the loss.
Brace started his brilliant day early when he broke away up the right side of the field in the sixth minute and put in a score to give Concordia the 1-0 lead. Then, just five minutes later, Brace struck again with another goal to put CU up 2-0 in only the 11th minute. This time, CU's Matt Caniglia fed Brace the ball on the left side from where Brace launched a low shot to the far right that found the net again for his second goal of the day.
Warner Pacific scored next off a free kick from 30 yards in the 22nd minute to cut the CU lead to 2-1. However, just 22 seconds later, two yellow cards on Warner Pacific gave Concordia a penalty kick. Hot off his two previous scores, Brace converted to put the Cavs back up by two at 3-1.
That's where the score would remain heading into halftime, though not much past that. That's when Brace scored his fourth goal of the match off a through ball played up to him from forward Michael Chamberlain. Chamberlain led Brace a bit up the right side where Brace then beat the goalie to the ball and sent in his final score for a 4-1 CU lead in the 52nd minute.
After that, Concordia survived a whirlwind of events over the last 38 minutes that included fourteen fouls, two yellows, one red and two Warner Pacific goals in the final five minutes.
Daniel Sain scored his first goal of the season for WPC in the 85th minute to claw the Knights back to 4-2. Then, just before the final horn, Alija Sacirovic smashed an 18 yard free kick around the CU wall to make the score 4-3 and provide some late game drama. Both Warner Pacific scores came after the Knights received the lone red card of the match in the 62nd minute to play a man down.
WPC travels to Eugene for their next match, taking on Northwest Christian on October 11th. Concordia will host Corban on the same day at 7pm.
