Lady Yotes set for Coyote Twilight
CALDWELL, Idaho - Sarah Johnson set a course record in the women’s race and Greg Montgomery ran away with the men’s contest as The College of Idaho swept the individual and team titles at the 4th-Annual Coyote Twilight cross country race on The C of I Campus Course.
Johnson broke away from a four-runner pack near the end of the second two-kilometer loop, winning the race in 18:20.00, six-tenths of a second faster than Cynthia Mauzerall ran on the same course in 2005. Teammate Hillary Holt finished second (18:26.50), Sora Klopfenstein took fourth (18:42.00), and Kayloni Perry claimed eighth (19:09.10) – as the Lady Yotes defeated NCAA Division I foe Boise State by 20 team points.
Sarah Bisterfeldt led BSU with a sixth-place finish (19:01.20), while Northwest Nazarene placed third overall, led by a fifth-place finish by Natalie Evans (18:45.10). Westminster College rounded out the field, led by a 24th-place finish by Monique Arvisais-Anhalt (20:15.90).
Montgomery, a two-time NAIA All-American, took the lead midway through the third loop, leading a 1-2-3 finish by the Coyote men – who remained perfect in their home meet. The junior finished in 25:19.80, ahead of teammates Andrew Hugill (25:29.20) and Jason Hunt (25:34.10) – finishing with 36 team points.
Boise State used a great pack running strategy to take second, just four points behind the Yotes – as the Broncos swept places 6-10, including a sixth-place finish from Aaron Back (25:50.60). Northwest Nazarene placed third with 49 points, led by a fourth-place finish from Matt Stark (25:42.70), while Westminster got a 14th-place finish from Oliver Lange (26:19.00), as the Griffins took fourth overall.
The C of I will head to Portland next weekend for a key meet – the Addias Cup, hosted by Concordia University.
