SALEM, Ore. – Forward Devin Chaney scored a pair of goals and handed out an assist, as Corban's men's soccer team picked up a victory over Cascade Collegiate Conference rival Northwest Christian, 4-0, Saturday on Warrior Field.
Out of the gates, Corban controlled the offensive flow and held Northwest Christian at bay until the 20th minute when Tyler Hagen teamed with Chaney on the eventual game-winner. Chaney would begin the play with a perfectly placed through ball behind the visiting Beacons' defense, as Hagen collected the ball and went one-on-one with NCU's keeper before depositing his fifth goal of the season into the back of the net for an early 1-0 Warrior lead.
After missing an earlier scoring opportunity, Chaney rebounded with his team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 25:38 mark after dribbling around the Beacons' goalie and flicking a shot into the upper right corner for the game's second goal.
Corban would take a two-goal lead into halftime, as the Warriors wasted no time in the second half scoring another goal when Chaney teamed with Hagen in the 49th minute on his seventh goal of the season. Hagen would start the play with a through ball up the middle to Chaney, who calmly slid a shot underneath NCU's keeper for his second goal of the afternoon.
In the 73rd minute, Northwest Christian earned a penalty kick following a foul on a Corban defender in the box. NCU's Chris Longi would step up to the PK circle and unleashed a low shot to the left that Corban's net-minder Steven Mason guessed correctly and pushed the ball over the end line to help preserve the shutout.
Just over four minutes later, Corban netted the game's final goal when KJ Newbery scored his first goal as a Warrior off an assist by Jake Paulson. The scoring play would begin with Paulson collecting the ball in the corner before lofting a perfectly placed pass up and over NCU's defense where Newbery was waiting to knock home the game's fourth and final goal.
