Cavs Duplicate First-Round Score, but Fall to Fifth at St. Martin's

OLYMPIA, Wash.—The Concordia women’s golf team matched its opening round score with a 326 on the second day but fell three spots at the St. Martin’s Invitational on Saturday to finish fifth in the team standings.
The Cavs (326-326—652) had been tied for second after the first round on Friday, but University of Hawaii-Hilo (333-313—646) shot the low round of the tournament on Saturday to move ahead of the Cavs in third place as well as University of Victoria in second (326-319—645).
Western Washington University stayed consistent at the top, winning the tournament with a two round total of 631 (315-316), while Chico State University, the team Concordia stood tied with after day one, finished just ahead of the Cavs in fourth with a 650 (326-324).
Individually, CU’s Sunny Powers improved a stroke off her first round, shooting 76 on Saturday to finish tied for second (77-76—153) overall. Powers shared second place with UVik’s Megan Woodland (76-77-153) who reversed Powers’ scores with a 77 on Saturday after a 76 in the opener.
Western Washington’s Sophia Elstrott (73-75—148) strolled to a five-stroke win after posting the lone even-par score of the tournament on Friday.
Holly Speer came in next for the Cavs (78-83—161), while Sara Molyneux (84-78—162) and Mary Grace Jenks (87-89—176) rounded out the team score. Jenna Boyle (91-89—180) and Brenda Fasse (106-95—201) also competed for the Cavs.
Concordia next competes in the second CCC tournament of the season at Corban University on Oct. 17-18.
