NAIA XC Runners Mentor NE Portland Students
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Visiting student-athletes in the area for the 2011 NAIA Cross Country National Championships took time out Thursday morning to mentor first- and second-graders from Alder Elementary School in northeast Portland.
The cross country runners spent the morning talking to the school children about the five core values of the NAIA's Champions of Character program: respect, responsibility, intergrity, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
Afterwards, the group of elementary and college students posed for a photo. The event was sponsored by Les Schwab Tire Centers.
The NAIA Cross Country National Championships take place Saturday at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash. First race is at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free.
