VANCOUVER, Wash. - Cascade Conference athletes made a strong showing at the NAIA Men's National Cross Country Championships held at Fort Vancouver today.
4th ranked and defending national champion Southern Oregon was unable to duplicate last season's title winning effort, but came home with a strong 3rd place finish. Ryan Sorenson earned All-American honors and paced the Raider squad, crossing the line in 22nd place overall with a time of 24:42. James Johnstone (31st), Matt Battaglia (65th), Scott McIntyre (80th), and Brett Hornig (81st) ran well as a pack to push SOU solidly into the top 5 with a total score of 206.
Greg Montgomery from College of Idaho also earned All-American honors and was the top CCC individual competitor. Amongst the leaders all race, the junior posted a 7th place finish in 24:17 and led the Coyotes as a team to a 22nd place spot overall.
Issac Updike finished 54th overall and helped Eastern Oregon to a 17th place spot as a team. Host school Concordia ran to a 19th place finish as a team, led by Andrew Landstrom's individual 25th place. Landstrom was an All-American by finishing in the top 30.
Northwest University was represented well by Seth Bridges who scampered to an All-American winning 12th place finish, missing the top 10 by a mere 8 seconds.
Individual qualifier Scott Minor from Oregon Tech clocked a time of 25:47, good for 102nd place.
Oklahoma Christian won the team title by scoring a meet low of 93. Kennedy Kithuka of Wayland Baptist was the individual champion, who scorched the 8k course in a time of 23:15.
