ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State took a double-digit halftime lead and coasted to a 97-81 victory over Southern Oregon in a men’s basketball exhibition contest Monday night.
The Raiders return to action on Friday when they will host New Hope Christian at 7:30 p.m. at Bob Riehm Arena as part of the Flagship Inn Classic.
Jordan Highland led Southern Oregon with 22 points, connecting on 8 of 10 shot attempts from the field. Eric Thompson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Raiders.
Six different players reached double-figures in the scoring column for NCAA Div. II No. 14 Humboldt State. Brandon Sperling’s 19 points led the way, followed by Austin Bryan and Scott Clark, who each tallied 14. Matt Lipski finished with 12 points, followed by Kyle Baxter’s 11 and Randy Hunter’s 10.
Humboldt State opened the game by scoring the first 10 points and led by double-digits throughout the majority of the contest. Late in the first half the Raiders used an eight-point run sparked by a three-pointer by Sam Osofsky to pull within five points at 27-22, but the Lumberjacks responded with an eight-point run of their own to push their lead back to double-digits.
