FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women’s basketball team had their three-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday, losing at Pacific University, 71-51. NCU had a better night shooting and hit on 50% of their three-point attempts, but 24 turnovers proved costly.
The Beacons (5-3) were led by a strong night from junior Point Guard Aly Bruns who scored a game-high 19 points, adding four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Lindsey Shearer added nine points and seven boards while Martha Taylor scored six points. NCU was 7-for-14 from three-point range in the game, getting three from Bruns and two from Taylor.
Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “Aly played a stretch of the best 16 minutes of her life, but she did not have enough help tonight. We had too many turnovers and no offensive push which didn’t give us enough opportunities to score.”
Pacific (3-0) had four players in double figures, led by a 16-point, seven-rebound night from Paige Jensen. Annette Highley added 15 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the floor and Brittney Anderson scored 12 points and seven rebounds. The Boxers out-rebounded NCU 41-29.
Northwest Christian University will be back in action this weekend at the Bruce Henderson Memorial Capitol City Classic, hosted by Willamette and Corban Universities in Salem. NCU will play in the tourneys first game at 10:00 am on Thanksgiving morning, facing Vanguard University, currently ranked #10 in the NAIA Division I poll.
