The Southern Oregon men’s basketball team took a double-digit halftime lead en route to an 82-65 victory over Simpson in Game Eight of the Flagship Inn Classic Saturday night at Bob Riehm Arena.

With the win SOU improves to 5-3 overall, while Simpson falls to 0-9 this season. The Raiders return to action tomorrow evening, when they host Simon Fraser at 4 p.m. at Bob Riehm Arena.

Kyle Tedder scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting to lead a group of six Raiders who reached double-figures. Eric Thompson finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Terriel Thomas posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Jordan Highland and Scott Tiefenthaler each added 10 for the Raiders.

Calvin Smith led all scorers with 22 points for Simpson. Bryan Castillo finished with 12 points and Stephon Thomas added seven points and 10 rebounds. Southern Oregon connected on 41.7 percent of its shots (25-of-60) while limiting Simpson to 38.6 percent shooting (22-of-57).

The teams played evenly for the first 12 minutes before Southern Oregon used a nine-point streak to take a 25-14 lead with 6:07 remaining in the first half. Simpson ended the SOU run with three-point play, but the Raiders scored the next five points to make it a 13-point advantage five minutes before halftime. The SOU lead reached 14 on a Tim Weber shot, but Simpson scored five of the last seven points of the half to make it 38-27 at the break.

A pair of Kyle Tedder scores capped an 11-2 SOU run to start the second-half, giving the Raiders a 49-29 lead. The Red Hawks used a 17-5 stretch to pull back within single-digits following a pair of three-pointers midway through the half, but Tim Weber dropped a trey on the other end to put SOU back up by 11 at 57-46. Southern Oregon followed that with five more points to push the lead back to 16, and the Red Hawks never pulled closer than 15 the rest of the way.
