CALDWELL, Idaho – After forcing 37 turnovers Friday night, the No. 23 Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team forced 30 turnovers Saturday, in a 71-47 win over Fresno Pacific.
Brooke Randall led the Mountaineers (7-1) with 18 points. The junior was 7 for 12 from the field, including 2 of 5 from three-point range. Korrie Bourn added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Miller scored 11 points after making all of her 11 free-throw attempts. Tina Miller and Dominique Johnson each threw three assists.
Eastern held the Sunbirds to 31 percent shooting from the field, while it shot 34 percent. EOU made 6 of 16 from behind the arc, and Fresno Pacific made 2 for 16. The Mountaineers finished 21 for 24 from the free-throw line, compared to FPU’s 17 of 20 free-throw shooting.
Fresno Pacific did outrebound EOU, 39-38. But, the Mountaineers had 28-16 points in the paint advantage. Eastern also outscored the Sunbirds, 25-9, in points off of turnovers. The Eastern bench had a 27-11 advantage over the FPU bench.
The game featured no lead changes and no ties. The Mountaineers had their largest lead in the first half after a Bourn three-point play, 32-17, with 1:49 left in the period. EOU had a 33-21 halftime lead. Eastern Oregon’s largest lead was 71-46 with 46 seconds left in regulation.
Brandi Blackwell finished with a team-high 12 points leading the Sunbirds (5-3). Blackwell was 5 for 8 from the field. She added nine rebounds as well. Jenay Herring had three assists.
The Mountaineers open Cascade Collegiate Conference play Friday at Concordia University. The Cavaliers (2-4) were the CCC champions last season. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., live video and stats will be on EOUSports.com. Live radio will be on KUBQ 98.7 FM.
