NU Eagles Shut Out Corban, Semifinals Next
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Three second half goals lifted the Northwest University Eagles over Corban University, 3-0, this afternoon on Senior Day for eight Northwest seniors and the final game of the regular season for both teams.
The win earns NU the #2 seed in the CCC semifinals this coming Tuesday, Nov. 8 and the Eagles will host the CCC semifinal game with the same Corban team. Game time on Tuesday, will be 1:00 pm on the NU Athletic Field.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half and it looked as though the game was headed into overtime until Edgar Esquivel scored the eventual game winner in the 59th minute as he scored off an assist from teammate Luke Fischer. James Kerr made it 2-0, as he chipped a 16 yarder over the Corban goalkeeper and Josh Peters was credited for the assist. Mason Abdalla completed the shutout as he scored with just 30 seconds on the clock as the Eagles notched their 11th win of the season.
"It was a special day today being Senior Day and getting a great win," said Gary McIntosh, NU head coach. "I'm proud of our seniors and their leadership on and off the field. We wanted to win for the seniors and we did just that. Everyone who got minutes today played with a lot of energy and pride. This win also secured a home playoff game. The guys deserved the win today."
Northwest (11-4-3, 10-3-1 CCC) dominated possession and held the edge in shots with a 21-9 margin. Esquivel and Joel Pelton combined for 9 shots, 6 on goal as Corban (10-7-1, 8-5-1) goalkeeper, Steven Mason managed 11 saves for the Warriors, 8 in the first half.
