Coffey Earns Second Straight Title at CCC Women's Cross Country Championships

ASHLAND, Ore. – ASHLAND, Ore. – Karlee Coffey claimed the individual title for the second year in a row and fourth-ranked College of Idaho placed five runners in the top-17 to earn the team title at the 2011 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Cross Country Championships Presented by Activate Saturday morning at Oak Knoll Golf Course.
Coffey finished the 5,000-meter race in 18:10.71 on a frigid, windy morning to earn the individual championship. College of Idaho’s Hillary Holt finished second in 18:21.57, followed by a pair of Concordia runners, Gina Paletta (18:31.08) and Lauren Moran (18:33.84).
College of Idaho’s 51 points earned the top spot, with No. 9 Concordia (61) and No. 7 Northwest Christian (69) close behind. Eastern Oregon finished fourth with 101 points, followed by No. 22 Southern Oregon (119), Northwest (140), Corban (181), Oregon Tech (208), Evergreen (252) and Warner Pacific (286).
Pat McCurdy, the College of Idaho head coach, earned CCC women’s cross country Coach of the Year honors after leading the Yotes to their third team title in four years, while Coffey was named the conference women’s cross country Athlete of the Year. Coffey highlighted the 2011 All-CCC team, which consisted of the top 12 finishers at Saturday’s meet.
Joining Coffey, Holt, Paletta and Moran on the all-conference squad were Northwest Christian’s Brittany Petersen (fifth, 18:34.95), NCU’s Stephanie Hescock (sixth, 18:35.91), C of I’s Sora Klopfenstein (seventh, 18:41.92), Concordia’s Junia Limage (eighth, 18:49.82), Southern Oregon’s Seena Frantz (ninth, 18:50.12), College of Idaho’s Sarah Johnson (10th, 18:55.94), SOU’s Alexandra Rudd (11th, 19:00.78) and Northwest’s Paige DeLapp (19:03.0).
By winning the conference title, College of Idaho earns the conference’s automatic berth in the NAIA Cross Country National Championships, which will take place at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash., on Saturday, Nov. 19.
