STATS - Concordia vs. George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore.—The Concordia men's basketball team beat George Fox 83-68 on Saturday behind another dominant shooting night from the field.

Overall, Concordia (7-4) outshot George Fox (2-6) 60.3 percent to 39.3 percent from the field on its way to the team's fourth victory in its last five games.

Concordia beat George Fox 80-70 when the teams faced each other earlier in the season and like the first game, Concordia jumped out to an early lead as a lay-up from senior Gage Aker pushed the Cavs' lead to 20-5 with less than eight minutes off the clock.

A 10-2 George Fox run later in the first would cut the lead to six at 32-26, but the Cavs responded with seven of the last ten points in the period to take a 39-29 lead at the break.

However, the Bruins came out hot in the second half, scoring the first six points of the period behind a pair of three-pointers from A.J. Grant and Anthony Sanchez.

That cut the Cavs lead to four, but another 11-2 CU burst pushed the Cavs' lead back up to double-digits at 58-44 with 11:06 remaining in the game. After that, Concordia never led by less than eight points the rest of the way.

“It was a big night for us by coming out strong in a tough place to play,” CU head coach Brad Barbarick said. “They made runs but our guys didn’t panic. They stuck to the game plan and were able to come back and hit shots to withstand it.”

Adam Herman led the way for CU once again with game-highs of 29 points and 10 rebounds off 11-of-14 shooting from the field. Behind Herman, Kevan West and Jourdan Sweeney scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Aker and Austin Dunn each added eight.

Meanwhile, George Fox had four players score in double-figures led by Grant with 20 points. Besides Grant, Sanchez added 11, while Cam Rier and Sean Atkins each put in 10.

“Adam (Herman) once again had a monster game,” Barbarick said. “But we had a lot of players make outstanding contributions.  Jason (Yecny) continues to bring tough defense while Kevan (West) and Jourdan (Sweeney) provided timely shots. It was also really exciting to have Gage (Aker) back and see him get his rhythm.”

Concordia will now stay out of conference for its next game with a home game against Linfield on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. After that, the Cavs will return to CCC play with a road game against Warner Pacific on Monday, Dec. 19, also at 7:30 p.m.
