California Maritime Downs SOU in OT 77-75

VALLEJO, Calif. – Southern Oregon took a 15-point halftime lead, but California Maritime tied it up to force overtime and defeated the Raiders 77-75 in nonconference women’s basketball action Sunday afternoon.
The loss drops Southern Oregon to 10-3 overall this season, with two losses coming against the Keelhaulers. The Raiders return to action Friday, when they will travel to La Grande, Ore., to face Eastern Oregon in a Cascade Collegiate Conference contest at 5:30 p.m.
Southern Oregon limited California Maritime to 25.7 percent shooting (9-of-35) in the first half as the Raiders took a 38-25 lead into the break. The Keelhaulers came out in the second half and made 47.2 percent of their shots (17-of-36) including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc to tie it up at 68-68 and force overtime.
Haley Newell led SOU with 20 points, while RaTanya Newsome added 11 in the loss and Kiara Moore grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Alexsis Brown led both teams with 28 points and Sabrina Domingo added 16 points for the Keelhaulers.
The Raiders hit 35.1 percent of their shots in the game (27-of-77), but made only 2-of-8 from the field in the overtime period. Turnovers cost SOU in the game, as the Raiders finished with 28 giveaways in the contest.
